LAC Shelter Forum 2021: Outcomes, presentations and recordings
On the 13th and 14th of December 2021, the LAC Shelter and Settlements Forum was held virtually and included participation and presentations from a wide geographic reach across the region. The virtual forum was held in English and Spanish and was presented across two days to create opportunities for sharing best practices, learning and dialogue within the region towards improving shelter and settlement responses.

The two-day Forum was divided into 3 areas to learn from:
- Sharing learnings from shelter and settlements programming in the LAC region, covering topics such as Coordination-mechanism in the region; Best practices in Disaster Risk reduction; Greening and sustainable shelter solutions; Best practices in Collective Shelter; Shelter emergency responses connected to government plans and vision; Reducing shelter vulnerability; Local Response & Leadership; Short-term shelter solutions in urban areas among others
2. Spotlight on global and regional shelter and settlement initiatives, and
3. Networking and discussions among colleagues across the region.
The presentations across both days covered programs from Honduras, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Ecuador, Bolivia, Paraguay, Venezuela, Brasil, Bahamas, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and was represented through participation by Canadian Red Cross, InterAction, Habitat for Humanity, IOM, CARE, IFRC, R4V, Global Shelter Cluster, REDLAC, CDEMA, CEPREDENAC, MIVAH, ARUP, Honduras Shelter Cluster, TECHO, Better Shelter, Universidad Católica de Chile, NRC, Cruz Roja Argentina, Build Change, IMMAP, ATECO and Shelter Box.
The wide range of presentations and presenters involved depict the multi-dimensionality of current shelter and settlements response and the issues that are addressed from all scales and approaches. On both days, the sessions of the forum were interactive and involved coordination among several organizations in order to make the sessions dynamic and diverse and include the participants in all the discussions. The session types ranged from presentations to Panel discussions, Workshops and Round tables that encouraged debate and conversation.
The Forum was a success, with over 80 participants each day joining mainly from the region, but also globally. The opportunity of learning and exchange was well used, and also presented the synergies between different stakeholders and actors in shelter and settlements response across the globe.
This edition of the LAC Shelter Forum was organised by Canadian Red Cross, InterAction, IFRC, Global Shelter Cluster, IOM and Habitat for Humanity with the support of USAID.
